Grassroots Coach Lead (U8-U10)
Position Type: Seasonal Paid
Compensation: $40 per session
Position Overview
The Grassroots Coach Lead is the on-field leader for FC Northwest’s U8 to U10 Grassroots program. This role oversees session delivery, supports Section Coaches, manages setup and equipment, and ensures training is delivered in a structured, development-focused environment aligned with Canada Soccer Grassroots standards.
Key Responsibilities
Session Leadership
- Lead and oversee all Grassroots training sessions
- Ensure the station-based format is properly implemented
- Manage rotations, timing, and session flow
- Maintain high activity levels and organization
- Uphold FCNW technical standards and player experience
Coach Oversight
- Support and guide Section Coaches
- Clarify session objectives before training begins
- Reinforce structure, positive coaching behaviour, and development focus
- Provide on-field support during sessions
Setup & Equipment Management
- Arrive early to set up all training stations
- Ensure equipment is organized and ready
- Oversee collection and storage after sessions
- Communicate equipment needs to Technical Staff
Festival Day Support
- Assist with festival-style matchdays as required
- Support Game Leader coordination
- Reinforce equal participation and development priorities
Qualifications
Preferred:
- Experience coaching youth soccer, ideally U8 to U12
- Strong understanding of age-appropriate development
- Experience leading or mentoring coaches
Coaching Pathway
Must possess, be enrolled in, or actively working toward:
- Canada Soccer Active Start
- Canada Soccer FUNdamentals
- Canada Soccer Learn to Train

FC Northwest Coaching Philosophy
Grassroots soccer at FC Northwest focuses on enjoyment, inclusion, high ball contact, age-appropriate skill development, and building confidence and love for the game. The program replaces early competition pressure with structured, development-focused delivery.
Role Overview
Grassroots Coaches create safe, structured, and engaging learning environments. Sessions follow a station-based format with rotating activities focused on ball mastery, dribbling, passing, shooting, and small-sided play. Festival days are delivered as jamboree events using Game Leaders rather than referees.
Coaching Expectations
- Deliver age-appropriate, organized sessions following FC Northwest technical direction
- Implement station-based training structure
- Take direction from Technical Staff and Coach Lead while applying session guidelines
- Encourage effort, participation, and sportsmanship
- Provide equal attention and opportunity to all players

Qualifications
- Competitive youth soccer playing experience preferred
- Experience working with young players considered an asset
- Canada Soccer Active Start certification encouraged

FC Northwest supports coach education aligned with program needs. Technical Staff provide clear session structures, station-based planning, on-field mentorship, and ongoing support.
